Antennas
for Acura and Honda brand cars will handled as a group because
they are essentially the same and quite similar. Early Hondas
of the late 70s to the late 80s mostly had the antenna
mounted at the left front of the roof and retracted into the A-pillar
(windshield pillar/roof support). By the late 80s power
antennas began appearing on the Accord and all Acuras either standard
or optional equipment.
Due to changing market conditions we have not restocked depleted
inventory of roof antennas for early Accords, Integras and mid
90s Civics. You may contact your nearby car radio shop who
can order one from the Harada catalog upon his next regular order.
Otherwise the Honda/Acura dealership will have one ready to sell.
POWER
ANTENNAS (MOTORIZED)
Replacement Mast (telescopic element):
Original Fit mast available for Honda Accord Wagon 1994-95. Part
number MST-HO1.
For Accord 1990-93 (1991 EX reported not to fit) please order
MST-HO2.
(**This is a new item and fitment applications are not 100% sure.
We welcome your feedback by trying this item on specified year
cars plus beyond the range stated. Non-fitment is no risk as we
provide a full refund [item plus freight] both ways!)
All Other Honda/Acura:
Because of the different mast diameter, it can be difficult in
some (mostly newer) Honda versions, to install our replacement
masts: MST-3
and MST-4.
But it can be done by removing the spacer around the top of the
Honda version and some minor adjustments. It requires some mechanical
knowledge, time and tools.Masts at the Honda dealers may be $45-60
but we found Majestic Honda, who discounts them. Click here
to visit their web site.
Antenna Repairing/Restoration:
These drive mechanisms are not repaired because it is more economical
to replace the whole motor mechanism unit. For the tinkerer:
We have available at times complete mechanism-only of old SJ-3F
or SJ-4F
available for just $20 plus UPS. You request one for gears and
you get one with good gears but a bad relay for example. If you
want the switching & relay parts, we send you one with bad gears.
Please see Parts Diagram
for your reference.
Power Antennas (Motorized)
are available in two ways: Aftermarket or original type (OEM).
The aftermarket units are less expensive, "one model fits all"
and fairly easy to install. This would be the S-90B
(Black only available now) which is Taiwan made and quite durable
in daily use. These come with a 6 month warranty and a universal
adjustable head, (HK-03)
30 degrees max. Add HK-14,
the 5 differently angled mounting "heads" or bezels so you select
one and dispose of the rest and end up with a factory look, to
the untrained eye. The S-90B
is quiet and smooth, much like the original. It has a different
housing so you will not utilize the original brackets. It should
be ordered with the DIN-4
short 6" coaxial cable to mate to the existing cable in the back
of the car. Also some power connector adapters may be used which
attach to the antenna then neatly plug into the car's existing
harness. Otherwise careful splicing can be done. See adapters
HO-50,
HO-51
and HO-52.
OEM type power antennas, our SJ-4F
(available black also) is extremely robust, almost indestructible,
smooth and quiet operation and easier to install when set up properly.
SJs are Japanese made and from the same vendor to Honda/Acura.
One industrial customer has done cycle testing to 100,000 up and
down cycles, far surpassing every other Asian made antenna and
matching German made units at twice the price. SJ series carry
a 1 year warranty. Our "universal" version of the Honda antennas
actually is better with a much thicker telescopic element. The
factory installed units use thinner (much easier to bend/break)
probably to reduce wind drag, visual effect or for increased replacement
sales. Then spacers are added to fill the extra space.
**1995/96
and newer Accords went to a Taiwan made antenna as factory installed
and SJ info does not apply. The S-90B
will be a better replacement in this case.
Our SJ series come in only 2 lengths. This means the retraction
tube is a variable length depending on model. SJ-3
is short, compact and SJ-4
is extra long. Honda and Acura combined utilize aprox 6 different
lengths. In order for a quick in and out installation to take
place you must get the exact same length in the new antenna as
is your original. This allows you to use the factory bracket.
Our SJ-3
is usually too short and the SJ-4
is usually 1' to 2" too long, allowing us to modify it for
you.

To do the modification yourself, you will need a tubing cutter,
razor blade and phillips screwdriver. There are some "tricks"
involved and we will include them here in the near future. Otherwise
you can tell us "Dimension-A" by checking the
SJ-4
antenna diagram or ship us your antenna and we will measure it
here, unless we simply replace your drive mechanism instead.
**
To measure your antenna it should be removed from the car, then
the upper collar removed to expose the end of the aluminum tube.
This will allow proper measurement of dimension-A. It can also be
done while installed but great care in measurement is needed**
When you order the new SJ series antenna you state the dimension
and your antenna is adjusted for length and shipped within 2-3
days. You will use the original "head kit" simply transfering
it to the new unit, and attaching the bracket off yours to the
new one also. The SJ-4
has the coaxial connection ready for your car. The power connection
can be done by using our HO series connectors, if available for
your car, or splicing directly or splicing the connector block
off your dead antenna to the new one. This involves only 2 or
3 wires.
Alternatively, if you don't want to go through the trouble
yet want an original quality antenna you can simply omit using
the factory bracket and use the included bendlable metal strap
to support the bottom of the antenna. Order the SJ-3F.
We
are currently collecting data for various Honda/Acura vehicles,
for Dimension-A length and will post it here for verification by
interested persons.
Note: The SJ series antenna replacement masts will
always be readily available and low cost, in the low $20 range.
Plus they are much thicker as explained above.
